At EU’s external borders, customs authorities seized faked products with a retail value of €778 million. In 2020, fake goods with a value of almost €2 billion were seized in the EU’s internal market and at external borders, compared to some €2.5 billion in 2019. The first joint annual report published by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Taxation and Customs Union and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) describes seizures of articles suspected of infringing intellectual property rights (IPR) such as trademarks, copyrights and patents in the EU’s internal market and at external borders in 2020.
